Over the top of the Santa Ynez Mountains and down to Montecito, then back along legendary Gibraltar and East Camion Cielo Roads. A journey to the Highlight Zone. Camp the first two nights in Sage Hill Group Camp, Paradise Canyon.
Monday, May 14
From the Santa Ynez Mountains down into Santa Ynez Valley. Short routes stay in the valley; long route loops up and over Figeoroa Mountain...rugged, challenging, and beautiful. After stage begins three nights in motel in Buellton.
Tuesday, May 15
The essential Santa Ynez Valley Loop, visiting Ballard Canyon, Foxen Canyon, Alisos Canyon (shortcut), Tepesquet Canyon (bonus miles), Cat Canyon, and Drum Canyon.
Wednesday, May 16
Out-&-back to remote Jalama Beach with an option to visit one of the most interesting of the early California missions: La Purisima. Mostly mellow valley miles but a few substantial climbs and descents.
Thursday, May 17
Short rides in the morning before moving car pool fleet north—1.5-hour drive—to Santa Margarita Lake in the afternoon for our only other night of camping. Rides include a visit to the Danish village of Solvang and to a pretty park and waterfall.
Friday, May 18
A stage featured on at least two past club tours and well worth repeating. Dream miles all day long. End of stage begins two nights in motel in Paso Robles.
Saturday, May 19
Some roads done on past tours but many new ones as well. A relatively easy stage in the rolling hills—vineyards and woods—to the NE and NW of Paso Robles. Another nearly perfect bike ride.
