My First Full Century – An SRCC Training Program
This program is for club members interested in training for and participating in a supported full century (100 mile) event. It is meant for members who have never ridden a 100 mile event or perhaps have not done so in a long time.
A series of training rides will be posted to the SRCC website, with increasing mileage, starting in early Spring 2019. Rides will be fairly flat as this program focuses on stamina and time on the bike more so than climbing skills and ability. Training rides will run through mid-summer.
Enrollment in the program is optional, but those enrolled will get emails with helpful training tips and have first priority on the event. You will also get advance notice of training rides. We will also coordinate the date training rides and the full century event with those formally enrolled.
“Coaches” will lead the training rides and also the full century event. The full century will be a fairly flat route through wine country. There will be SAG support and rest stops, including a lunch stop.
All participants are expected to have a bike appropriate for a century ride in good working order. Participants should be self-sufficient on the road and carry tubes, tools and a pump or CO2 for both training rides and the event ride.
