Handling and Street Skills

Address: 750 Mendocino Ave, Santa Rosa.

Class size limit: 12 people

Cost for participant: $5 Limited to SRCC members and subsidized by SRCC

Format: classroom and on-bicycle. On bicycle portion is on blacktop and on the road.

Course Description: Club members of all levels can benefit from this class.  The class includes classroom instruction, parking lot drills and a group ride. It is taught by instructors certified by the League of American Bicyclists (LAB) and is based on LAB's Smart Cycling curriculum. 

Course Content
Classroom portion:

Principles of traffic law (including positioning within a lane)

Riding rural roads

  • Crash statistics, avoiding crashes, 5 steps of crash prevention
  • Group riding (including ride etiquette)
  •  Open Q&A

Drill Portion:

  • Bike readiness Quick Check
  • Emergency stopping techniques

There will be a group ride and on-road skills training course,(including intersection positioning).
