Route 1: 122 miles, nearly 10,000' of climb

Route 2: A mere 119 miles but avoids the 900' climb over Mountain House Road on the return into Cloverdale

South through Alexander and Knights Valleys, up and over Ida Clayton and Western Mines (includes 2 miles of steep, downhill gravel). Recent scouting of Western Mines Road has deemed the road passable by bike, but that is according to a person who rides practically anything, including a bike called the Fuchsia Wonder.  Be prepared to walk your bike if you do not feel comfortable descending Western Mines Road. 

A rest stop in Middletown, then up and over Big Canyon (more gravel) and Siegler Canyon. Out along the edge of Clear Lake, with a second stop in Soda Bay. Up and over Hopland Grade to a third stop in Hopland. Long route uses Mountain House and Hwy 128 to Cloverdale; short route avoids the Mountain House climb by using the wide shoulder of Hwy 101 and north end of Geysers Rd into Cloverdale. If needed, a fourth rest stop in Cloverdale. Finish up with Dutcher Creek, Dry Creek, Lytton Springs, Chiquita. 

This ride will be Lynn Best's final ride of the season, as he will be undergoing extensive foot surgery on September 27.  So come out and give Lynn a hearty farewell!
