The Mountain Goats are doing this beginners ride over King Ridge for the 3rd year. If you have been wanting to try this ride but for whatever reason have been putting it off this is your big chance to do this ride and not worry about being dropped! We will ride with you and encourage you to get up and over this beautiful and challenging ride with the added treat of riding down Meyers Grade to the ocean with it's drop dead gorgeous views!

You will need to start doing some hill climbing so you will improve your chances of a successful ride. I would suggest you be able to do a 40-50 mile ride with at least 4,000' of elevation on a ride before you sign up for this ride. The week of the ride I would suggest you give your legs a rest after Monday so you will have fresh legs for Saturdays ride. There are no shortage of hills to practice on in Sonoma County. Cavedale, Sonoma Mt, Coleman Valley, Ft. Ross, Geysers Rd. Pine Flat, Pine Mountain, Rockpile, Sweet Water, Lichau, Los Alamos, and Mill Creek just to name a few. Start out small and work you way up to the longer climbs. You will have plenty of time to get ready for this ride if you start your training now. You don't have to be fast to do this ride all that you have to do is keep pedaling at whatever pace works for you and we will be there to encourage you.

It is very important that come the day of the ride that your bike is in very good working order. So make sure your entire bike is in tip top shape as you don't want to have any mechanicals out there.

I will reevaluate the start time the week before because if it is going to be a real hot day the start time will be as early as 7am to avoid the heat and enable us to have enough water to get to the water stop at Ratna Ling on Hauser Bridge Rd. This ride is open to all levels of riders so those that want to just come out and do the ride you are more than welcome to join us and go off the front at your own pace or ride along with the new folks trying this ride for the first time. All of my rides start a the stated start time so please be ready to ride at the start time or better yet be early...and if you can't do both you will just have to catch up! :-)
