OVERVIEW

Join your SRCC friends for a 9-day, 8-night trip to three amazing areas of central and southern Oregon.  We will visit three wonderful towns that are well known for their scenic beauty and cycling routes. Bike rides suitable for a variety of pace and skill levels will be available at each location. There are also plenty of things to do off the bike at each location. And even Mountain Biking if you want that (lots of dirt roads and trails in and around Bend in particular). Our locations are:

  • Bend, in the Deschutes River Valley
  • Corvallis, in the Willamette Valley
  • Medford, in the Rogue River Valley

This tour is the “inn-to-inn” style – no camping!

PRELIMINARY ITINERARY (details subject to change)

Participants will travel on their own up to Oregon, from location-to-location, and then back to Sonoma County. It is up to the participants to secure transportation.

Saturday September 12, 2020
Everyone needs to be at the first location, in Bend OR (about 9 hrs drive from Sonoma County) by ~4pm. We will have a meeting and happy hour refreshments.

Sunday September 13 - Tuesday September 15
Rides in/around Bend, ranging from short and fairly flat/rolling to longer and hilly and something in between. Pick from multiple routes each day leaving from the hotel or elsewhere including an option to do the Sisters/McKenzie Pass climb. There are MANY possible routes and having vehicles means you could drive to a start location a short distance from Bend, which opens up even more options. Group dinner on Sunday September 13th at Pioneer Park at 5pm.

Rides on Tuesday should be on the shorter side as we will drive that afternoon from Bend to Corvallis (~3 hr drive).

Wednesday September 16 – Thursday September 17
Rides in Corvallis through mostly farmlands, vineyards (Willamette Valley), and covered bridges! You can find a few hills if you head W/NW or further east. Again we will have options on routes. Something for everyone, from bike paths to farmlands and rolling hills or longer with bigger hills.
Group dinner on Wednesday September 16th in a park (TBD), likely at 5pm.

We move again Thursday afternoon - longer drive to Medford (3.5-4 hrs).

Friday September 18 – Saturday September 19
Rides on Fri and Sat in Medford area. Again, everything from an easy bike path along Bear Creek to the lovely town of Ashland, or head up the Rogue river parkway to Grant's Pass, around Table Mtn and/or over the Applegate pass to Jacksonville.  Or some shorter rolling terrain loops.
Our final group dinner will be on the "Party Patio" at the hotel complete with food trucks and a tiki bar!

Sunday September 20
We all depart back to Sonoma County (about 6 hours drive) - or you could choose to extend your trip (on your own).

The itinerary and details will be firmed up as we move closer to the tour date and based on activities selected by the tour participants.

OPTIONAL (ON YOUR OWN)

Crater Lake – Ride the Rim - CANCELLED but you could do it on your own

LODGING, MEALS AND MORE

The tour fee is $875 per person double occupancy and includes 8 nights lodging at negotiated discount rates. See below for information on the “solo supplement” for those desiring single occupancy. Hotels are all centrally located in each town, within walking distance to breweries, restaurants, and amenities so you can experience the area and local flavors. All three hotels have swimming pools.

  • Bend: Fairfield Inn & Suites Downtown
  • Corvallis: Holiday Inn Express Corvallis On the River
  • Medford: Inn at the Commons

The fee also includes three group dinners and 8 breakfasts. Your tour leader team will provide happy hours (snacks, beverages) most nights (except the days we are moving and have group dinners). We will also have the fixings for lunches and snacks that you can take on the road (especially where the ride destinations are sparse with lunch options). Route maps, sightseeing information, and coordination of activities, lodging, and more will also be provided by the tour organizers. Participants are responsible for paying for their own dinners except for the three group dinner nights.

We will have a "support" vehicle available in case of emergencies and with some basic first aid supplies and tools, but there will be no SAG on the road (your leadership team will also be riding each day).  So all participants are expected to be self sufficient on the road.

Tour participants are covered by the club’s insurance should an accident happen while on the designated routes. Note that any accidents while not riding on the designated routes or during driving to or from the riding locations as well as theft of your bicycle or belongings, is not covered. All participants need to be responsible for maintaining the legally required car insurance for their personal vehicles and keeping their bicycle and belongings safe and secure.

TOUR FEE PAYMENT AND CANCELLATION POLICY

The Tour Fee is $875 double occupancy. Participants are encouraged to find their own roommate if possible; otherwise we will attempt to pair you.

The initial deposit is $50 (payable by credit card or PayPal online at time of registration). The first installment (by check*) of $425 will be due within 2 weeks of your registration. The second and final installment (by check*) of $400 will be due by May 1, 2020.  Fees are based on double occupancy; those preferring single occupancy will need to pay a single supplement of $510 on top of the regular fee, but space for singles is extremely limited (first come first serve basis).

Cancellation Policy: Refunds of tour payments will depend upon whether a replacement rider signs up, and on costs that can be recouped. The amount refunded will be based on the principle that neither the tour’s remaining participants nor the Club will incur any additional cost as a result of cancellations.  If the cancelling participant is replaced, a refund will be made at that time, less a $25 fee. If the cancelling participant can't be replaced, any refund will be determined after the tour and final expenses are tabulated.

If a single participant cancels and another roommate cannot be found, in addition to other costs that cannot be recouped, the cancelling roommate may also be liable for the single supplement fee of the roommate remaining on the tour.

* Arrangements can be made to pay fees by credit card, with an additional $15 (per payment/installment) to cover the credit card transaction fees.

RIDE PARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITY

Please remember that the Tour Leaders are volunteers, and that successful tours depend on participants providing much of their own support. Participants are expected to come to the ride well trained, in good health and ready to accomplish the required daily riding using well-maintained bicycles.  All participants should accept responsibility for a safe and enjoyable tour. Please do not interfere with the ride by inviting non-participants onto any portion of the ride or tour.  Please keep the Tour Leader informed of any special request you may have. Tour participants must be SRCC members.

Your tour leader team:  Bridgette Deshields, Ramona Turner, and Jose Martinez

Contact Tour Leader with questions: Bridgette Deshields, bridgettedeshields@sbcglobal.net

We reserve the right to cancel or modify trips for any reason if circumstances make it necessary. In the event that SRCC needs to cancel, we will do our best to provide a 30 day notice and a full refund for monies received. Refunds will be for the tour fee only, less any costs expended and not refunded to SRCC due to the cancellation, and do not include transportation, hotel or other expenses incurred on the part of tour participants. Tours are generally held rain or shine. Thanks for your support and understanding.

Note that registration for SRCC tours is open to club members only.
