This is the second of the 'Winter Trainer' series, four rides, one per month, Jan-April, to prepare riders for harder rides in May-Jun, such as Fearsome Five, Bad Little Brother, and Terrible Two. Don't be fooled by all the level terrain on the RWGPS profile — this ride includes two long, steep climbs which should not be underestimated. We'll start the first climb just a few miles from the start, and although some would say that the western slope of Spring Mountain is the 'easy' side, it is still a long 7 miles to the top. Once we are down in the Napa Valley, we'll organize a pace line to cover the next 20 miles or so, with a brief food/water break at the halfway point at the market/deli in Yountville. Then on to Hill #2 — there is no easy way up this one! We'll approach the beast from the south via Dry Creek Road before turning onto Trinity Road. After that big effort, we'll be glad of the relatively flat ride back to Santa Rosa. The ride will likely take 5+ hours to complete, including regroups and water stop. The ride is listed as a C pace, however D riders are welcome. D riders may choose to forge ahead, or wait for C riders by regrouping.
