The Mountain Goats are doing the 5th annual Geysers Loop Clockwise from Geyserville starting at the Chamber of Commerce parking lot. For the First Timers we will have a celebratory beer for you at the end of the ride. Remember if you can't be on time, be early, and if you can't do either of these you will have to catch up!

This ride is for all members of the club at all paces, but the focus will be supporting the First Timers to help them complete this course safely. Ebikes are also welcomed. You will need to have good climbing legs to be successful on this ride and a bike that is in very good working order with good tires and brakes.

Here are some hills that you will want practice on before you do this ride. Cavedale, Trinity, Los Alamos, Sonoma Mtn, Lichau, Coleman Valley, Fort Ross Rd, Pine Flat, Some out and back on the first climb or two of the Geysers, Rockpile, Sweet Water, and Pine Mtn. Any of these will give your legs a good workout to help you get ready for the Geysers Loop. In order to give yourself a chance of completing this ride you really need to be doing some rides of 40 miles with 2800 to 3500' of climbing.

We will be riding at the pace that works best for the First Time Riders so you don’t have to worry about keeping up with anybody but yourself.  One of the biggest mistake you can make is to try to keep up with someone stronger than you in the hills.  If you do that you will burn out and this won’t be a pleasurable experience for you.  So you will always have company on this ride from one of the Mountain Goats who will be riding at the slowest pace of the riders.  For any mechanical failures or other issues there will be a SAG vehicle on the Course.

Note that road conditions are variable, including sections of gravel and numerous potholes.  Please be cautious, especially on descents.  Also note this is not in any way, form, or shape a race but a social ride and I can’t encourage everyone who does this ride enough to go slow on the downhills and ride safely throughout the ride. Which means calling out all obstacles in the road, calling out your passes, not passing anyone on the right, and when going up the hills stay to the right hand side of the road as much as possible so cars coming around tight corners won’t hit anyone.

Please wear bright clothing with a front and rear flashing light so you can be easily seen by the locals in the shadows of the trees.  The sag will have extra water at the lunch stop  and you will be required to bring all of your own snacks and food for the ride.
